Journalistic Editorial License? or Propaganda?

I find it interesting how the AP rewrites stories that are already out on the wire. NetNewsWire has this great feature that tracks edits to the RSS feeds that you subscribe to. Here’s an AP story from today:

Red strike through is text that was removed by the AP and green is text that was added. The following AP Wire story went from “Haliburton is out of control in its work providing troop support” to “if we stop Haliburton, U.S. forces face an emergency”. That’s a big flip-flop.

Amazing. Who can you believe anymore? Not a puppet that is for sure! NASA photo analyst: Bush wore a device during debate Physicist says imaging techniques prove the president's bulge was not caused by wrinkled clothing. George W. Bush tried to laugh off the bulge. "I don't know what that is," he said on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday, referring to the infamous protrusion beneath his jacket during the presidential debates. "I'm embarrassed to say it's a poorly tailored shirt."

Dr. Robert M. Nelson, however, was not laughing. He knew the president was not telling the truth. And Nelson is neither conspiracy theorist nor midnight blogger. He's a senior research scientist for NASA and for Caltech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and an international authority on image analysis. Currently he's engrossed in analyzing digital photos of Saturn's moon Titan, determining its shape, whether it contains craters or canyons. http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2004/10/29/bulge/index_np.html

it does look suspicious... but i can tell you from my years of Photoshop Magic™ ...

unsharp mask is more voodoo then science. That type of enhancement doesn't prove much.

WOW.

So the only words not modified were "The ... extended a Halliburton Co. ... contract ... the company ... the".

If that doesn't make you angry about the state of our nation, I don't know what would. Unfortunately I don't think the masses in the red states get this sort of information. That, or they would say it's part of the "Liberal media's" distortion.

Argh! We must and we will get this country going in the right direction.

Keep posting stuff like this. We can't cure ignorance, but we can stave it off.
