Yes, it may look like Murph is getting impaled by the pulpit— but he’s actually 6 feet forward of the bow swinging on the spinnaker halyard.
We’re off to the islands for 7 days of R&R. I’m taking a cantenna to see if I can’t “weeze the juice.” If I can get online, I’ll post some island shots.

The storm last night was something else. I was racing on the Delaware River when it hit the city. The sheer force of the gusts came close to downing our J/27. I fought not to go over-board while struggling on the deck with a 60° heel to get the jib down. We knew the storm was coming— but we were caught off-guard by it’s sudden impact on the area.
Looking for leeward shelter from the stink we motored along the PA shore of the river. When we reached the piers with new condo construction, the storm began ripping 6ft plywood sheets off the buildings and sending them sailing into the river. The dirt and debris from the construction sites was whipped into a dust storm that reduced visibility to less than 30ft.
The Liberty fleet made it back to dock without incident. 16 others were not so lucky.

Sailing season on the east coast is going to begin in a month. With the mess I get my deck into,I doubt I'll ever be able to remote control my boat à la Hyperion. If my lines aren't neatly stored or runnng free I end up with something "Fancy".

I'm in the beginning stages of planning my next charter. A couple of my closest friends and I are looking at spending New Years on either a 45ft or a 50ft Bavaria in the British Virgin Islands. I'm so psyched to get this trip going- that my picture of the day photos for the next week or so are all going to be photos I've snapped in the last few years while sailing. I'm chartering again from Horizons. They're an outstanding little charter company. I highly recommend them.

| | I race J/27's on the Delaware every wednesday night. This past wednesday, as we rounded the leeward mark, we lost our spinnaker halyard. As the pit was hoisting the chute, the shackle must have released, and the halyard went all the way to the top of the mast. The chute deflated and plunged into the river. Not having a bosin's chair, I quickly fashioned a spanish bowline with the Jib halyard, and hoisted a crew member up the mast to retrieve the spin halyard. I was amazed I still knew how to tie that knot- something I learned as a kid in boyscouts. |
